Touring, residing, composing

Happy Fall, everyone. Here’s a quick look at what’s going on with me:

-In just one week I’ll by flying off to the UK for a tour there with the Marian McLaughlin Trio. For months Marian, Katie, and I have worked tirelessly to put the whole thing together, and finally it’s upon us! We’re very excited to see England, Scotland, and Wales, to play for new audiences, and to share bills with some fantastic young British musicians (such as Lutine from Brighton; Beth Porter from Bath; Christopher Eatough from Manchester; Best Girl Athlete from Aberdeen; and others). To see the full tour schedule, just go to the “Shows” page.

-The 2016-2017 Strathmore Artist in Residency (A.I.R.) program is off to a great start. It’s such a pleasure to be learning and playing in the company of five other excellent area musicians. In addition, I have the privilege of being mentored by one of the most renowned American Scottish fiddle players of our time, Bonnie Rideout. If you’d like to see a preview of this season’s A.I.R. talent, the six residents and three mentors will all be performing on November 30th at AMP by Strathmore.

-In anticipation of my own A.I.R. concerts in March, I’ve been composing and arranging new music to be premiered then (such as my string quartet). Expect to see me in the company of an intrepid ensemble performing a dynamic mix of classical, jazz, and folk material.

-Lastly, I’ve recently had the honor of being awarded a generous grant from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities through its Arts and Humanities Fellowship Program. Deepest thanks to the Commission (and to my fellow DC taxpayers) for its commitment to sustaining the cultural life of our city by supporting local artists.
